Hello friends and fiends, a quick intro here. Many of you know of my disdain for UNCORK'D PRODUCTIONS the deadbeat, no effort, indie horror film distributor that specializes in marketing slickly packaged horror movies to get you to fork over your money. Once you realize how much it sucks, it's too late, they got you! What they specialize in is quick promotion, lurid cover art, and paid for reviews. It seems they have a circle of really bad filmmakers that keep punching out cheaply produced, zero effort product to prey on horror fans who frankly don't get enough GOOD horror. I am no exception. I held on way to long for good product to come from these companies and in the process wasted countless hours watching really bad, film school level products. Shame on me. And guess what? Wild Eye Releasing has joined the fray.

Here is Wild Eye's own bio:
"A leader in independent cinema since 2008, represents horror, exploitation, dark arthouse, cult and documentary films from around the world. It is our mission to bring new and talented filmmakers and their work to as large an audience as possible, creating both traditional and digital opportunities for lower budgeted films made outside the studio system."
Sounds great doesn't it? Let me tell you, it simply isn't true. If it was, since 2008 you'd think they would have put out at least ONE great horror film or even a very good one. Nope. Without delving too much into Wild Eye itself I will say that EVERYTHING that applies to UNCORK'D applies to Wild Eye, fact. As you can see from the first pic in this blog, they are now trying a new tactic to get your cash, the sub-release moniker of RAW AND EXTREME. Whew! I'll tell you what...if you are still doubting, please watch any one of the trailers for this offshoot. If you find a good one, let me know.
Here is a classic example of how you can spot a bad movie trailer. Notice there is no talking and it's heavily edited. The editing makes the movie look like anything but what it is, and the muting of the actors is well...dialogue makes bad acting stand out like a sore thumb!

I will end this by telling you that I have no ill will to these companies, okay well I do but merely for what they are doing. Personally I love indie horrors and the foreign market too. Examples of companies that are putting out solid indies on low budgets which is PROOF it can be done are:
IFC

Magnet/Magnolia
A24
Ghosthouse AfterDark Films
Dimension Extreme
Xlrator
Gravitas
Shit Companies:
Uncork'd Wild Eye
MTI
Full Moon The Asylum Phase 4
The bottom line is, I do this for you...no one should have to sit through something that no effort was even put into. Can these companies change? Only if they decide to value integrity and reputation above a quick buck. Sad thing is that if they put out good movies they would make even more. But that takes effort, and quality they do not possess. So when it comes to finding good indie horror, leave the champagne CORK'D and do not trust Wild Eyes.
