Being a long time fan of both Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, I will admit that they have yet to replicate their performances in their masterpiece, Shaun of the Dead. And, that's okay. However where Paul and The World's End made strides to at least be entertaining, SR takes a downward dip. The film is seldom funny or very engaging and really just a jumbled mess of ideas. A remote school, bullies, fracking, monsters, etc. Part of the problem is no chemistry with the dynamic duo as they rarely share screen time.

To be sure there are some fun moments. Hermione Colfield, Finn Cole and Michael Sheen give solid performances that help lift this one up a notch. Both Pegg and Frost are wasted here in non-funny generic roles. There is some promise as the mythology surrounding the area comes to fruition but the chaos that ensues makes much of it inexplicable. Poor CGI and silly looking monsters don't help the proceedings.

It's like this. I watched the whole thing and was mildly entertained but never felt truly drawn in and most likely will never watch it again.
