BODY CAM, SHE NEVER DIED, CRAWLERS AND MORE MINI REVIEWS TO GET YOUR ROCKS OFF!

Updated: May 20, 2020

Here we go! Some more little slices of review to help guide your eyes...have you seen these? What did YOU think?

SHE NEVER DIED (2020)

3/5

Lacey, a socially-detached loner, is cursed with immortality and her never-ending tedium of existence. In her attempts to keep her compulsions in check, she seeks out the darkest souls humanity has to offer. Lacey must now face her own inner demons while simultaneously finding her next meal.

A sequel of sorts by the director of HE NEVER DIED has trouble finding its groove but still offers mindless fun. Henry Rollins pulled off a feat in the first film that hinged on his performance. Oluniké Adeliyi does a fine job in this strange remake but many other areas fall short. The story is threadbare and barely holds together and is also populated by cookie-cutter characters. The strength is in some key scenes and while the back story is all but missing, this one still provides much entertainment.

CRAWLERS (2020)

3/5

Three unlikely friends get together on St. Patrick's Day to rescue a college town from a violent group of body-swapping alien creatures.

Hulu's Into the Dark has put out some good horror flicks, but not great ones. Crawlers is another that misses the mark but taken for what it is, it's not half bad. Quirky characters and situations highlight the proceedings here with a high nod to Giorgia Whigham who's perky cuteness doesn't get stale throughout. Her interspersed narration is a touch off-putting but the rest of the cast rounds things out nicely. This is a fun flick whose real drawback is a super skimpy middle. The setup and first 25 minutes or so are the best as they ascertain the alien threat while the ending wraps up neatly. There's just no MEAT here. Still, for a quick and fun ride, you could do worse. This may be horror light...but it's the good kind.

BODY CAM (2020)

3.25/5

When a routine traffic stop results in the unexplained, grisly death of her colleague, a cop (Mary J. Blige) realizes footage of the incident will play for her eyes only. As the attacks mount, she races to understand the supernatural force behind them.

BC is a strange flick that delivers the goods but in a somewhat formulaic way. Aspects of the story are compelling and I was pulled in despite the predictable stylings. The film alternates between gritty and light fare but despite some tense moments never manages to be truly scary. The supporting characters are weak too but then again this is not THEIR story, it's hers and she shines! Mary J. Blige is the driving force here and believable on many levels. The undercurrent of racism and police coverup is thankfully never heavy-handed. Morals abound and the ending was a little cushy but the crux here is an entertaining flick that didn't quite reach full potential. Still, I recommend giving it a look.

HUMAN ZOO (2020)

1/5

Contestants compete for a one million dollar prize by subjecting themselves to live-streamed solitary imprisonment and other psychological horrors at the hands of a sinister television producer.

I try folks...I really try to pick my movie viewing carefully. I was really bored one night and with no other new releases to watch I figured I'd give this a chance mainly because Robert Carradine is listed in the cast. Hoo boy was I in for some shit...no seriously, this steaming pile of redundant armadillo crap will test even bad horror fans limitations. I almost stopped watching but had to see if at least the end could salvage this grade Z turkey. Well, guess what?...it doesn't end with any kind of resolution...AT ALL!!! The camera literally stops filming like they ran out of quarters! What kind of shit-for-brains does that?!!! Okay, so the premise could have been interesting. Here it is in a nutsack: Several annoying people get chosen by some equally annoying folks to enter solitary confinement in a doorless room with a bucket for a toilet to see who can outlast the other and claim the million-dollar prize. Okay...well after Sir Robert Carradine's three minutes on screen the ENTIRE movie is a constant switch back and forth between the whining pleas of these highly moronic individuals. THEY SUCK!!!! What's worse is this orgy of senseless just goes on and fucking on, I wanted to personally kill each of the contestants, the director, writers, and Rob Dumbass Carradine. Holy turd waffles, how the hell do you go from Revenge of the Nerds to this unadulterated garbage?!!! Unless you are a glutton for punishment or a shit connoisseur, I highly recommend that you stay far away from this used jizz bucket. Worse than Uncork'd and almost makes Lucifer Valentine's films watchable. Truly the cream of the crap! Horrible!!!!!!!

Welcome to the Jungle (2007)

3/5

Screenwriter turned filmmaker Jonathan Hensleigh (The Punisher) delivers a tale inspired by true events that follow two couple's trek through the cannibal-infested jungles of New Guinea in search for Michael Rockefeller, the lost beneficiary of the Rockefeller estate whose fabled to still be living in the wild after his disappearance during a 1961 expedition. Reportedly holding more than a few ties to Ruggero Deodato's cult jungle gross-out Cannibal Holocaust, Hensleigh's film stalled in distribution limbo after making its rounds on the festival circuit.

Another in a long line of cannibals in the jungle films, though at least this one holds interest fairly well. Which is amazing considering some of the god awful annoying characters and medium to slow pace. Like most of these films, the "cannibalizing" doesn't come until late and then is over in a flash. A unique back story regarding Rockefeller and good production elevates this one.
